Q: Want to redownload an audiobook but it won't let me

I purchased the audiobook to Stephenie Meyer's The Host back in '08. I've since changed computers and devices and want to put it on my new iPod but it says some of the files are missing, about half the book no longer plays. I've tried the steps I've read here in support but when I get to the "Download" button, it is grayed out and won't work. What do I need to do to get these files back?

    Hey beckyinphilly1,

Thanks for your post. I see you’re trying to download an audiobook you’ve purchased but the download button is grayed out. I know having a working version of your audiobook is important so you can listen to it. I’ll be happy to help.

It sounds like you’ve followed the instructions found here:

Download your past purchases - Apple Support

That’s great you tried those steps. There are a few things that could cause the download button to not work. If the file you have is already downloaded but not working, you might need to delete that file and then retry the download button.

If that doesn’t work you may need to sign out of iTunes and then back in. You can do that by clicking on the “Account” drop down and click on sign out, then sign back in. If you use Apple Music, iTunes Match, or iCloud music Library, this may removed downloaded music of your device, which you can then re-download.

    Take care!
