Q: File couldn't be opened

I am using a mac with os x yosemite and one with os x ell capitan. I am editing with final cut x. The files are avchd and I can import the files. I see the files in the event, I can put the files on the time line however I get the following message:

the file.....couldn't be opened because there is no such file. I have taken the file off the sdxc disc and put them on a drive and I even took them straight from the disc but I get the same message.

What is this message and how do I correct it?

Did you extract the individual clips from the card to the hard drive or use the FCP X Import window using the whole card structure?

A step by step of the import process might help.

I put the sdxc card in the computer, I transfer the video from my disc to my external drive: The folders includes: a private folder and a DCIM folder (video is avchd). When I go to final cut x, I go to import file which sees the avchd files. It imports the video into final cut x. I see the video and it lets me put it into the time line however when I try and place video into a bin I get the error message the file.....couldn't be opened because there is no such file.  I tried to changed the format of the files from avchd to .mov by using a file convertor software. When files were converted to .mov I did the same import process by going to import in final cut x. The same process as above and the same error message.

I Try and place the video in a bin

WHat exactly are you doing here? Maybe a screenshot? The term bin is not used in FCP so I'm not clear where you're going.

SElect a clip in the browser and use reveal in Finder to see where the clip is in the Finder. Post screenshots.
