Q: Notes App doesn't delete attachments

Hello,

I am currently using MacBook Pro 13" with El Capitan version 10.11.6. The problem concerns the Notes app which keeps some attachments from notes after I deleted those notes from the application for good. The attachments stay visible in the attachments section but doesn't open. Also, the delete option doesn't show up after I right-click those attachments. To be precise the attachments that I am talking about are the ones from the very first notes that were created right after I updated to El Capitan. The rest of the attachments created later are being deleted as they should be after I delete the notes containing the attachments. The files that are stuck are a photo and a pdf document.
Is there a way to get rid of these files?

    Hello igorfromvästra frölunda,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Community. I know how important it is to be able to keep your notes organized, and I'd like to help you get rid of those lingering attachments. Whenever we see an issue like this it's a good idea to first isolate the source of the problem using Safe Mode and a test user account on your mac. These will help us determine if the issue is specific to a startup item or to your user account. This article will guide you through testing using safe mode.

Try safe mode if your Mac doesn‘t finish starting up

If the issue does not occur in safe mode we know that it is a startup item that is causing the problem. However if the issue does return in safe mode we'll want to test in a new user account to determine if the issue is specific to your user account or if it is system wide. This article will guide you through that process:

How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

Should the issue turn out to be system wide, I'd recommend reinstalling OS X using the article linked below. This will not delete any of your data or files, it will just reinstall the operating system.

If you run into any trouble, or have any questions, the whole community is here to help.
    -Best regards

    Dear Ulexes138,

Thank you for your detailed instructions!
Will I actually see that the attempt to start in Safe Mode was successful, will there be any indication showing the computer is restarting in Safe Mode? I am asking since most probably I had failed to reboot in this mode. Also, I am using FileVault encryption. I tried to follow the instructions for those who use this encryption method but it seemed like the mac didn't respond to me holding shift buttons...

    Hello again igorfromvästra frölunda,

The only indication you may see is the Safe Mode can take slightly longer to boot up and the words "Safe Mode" will appear at the upper right corner of the login screen.

If it gives you any trouble, we're here to assist.
