Q: Windows 8.1 cache manager issue after startup

Hi everyone

Trying to install Windows 8.1 (or 7!!) through Boot Camp 5.1 and running into some serious problems.

I'm running a Mac Pro (Mid 2012) 2 x 3.06GHz Xeon, 64GB 1333 DDR3 ECC with a flashed NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 TI with 6GB GRAM. The only other mod is a Sonnet Technologies USB3 PCI-e card.

The install seems to work fine. I go through the Boot Camp Assistant, selecting Install on the first screen. Selecting Bay 2 with a dedicated 1TB HHD and option 'Erase disk and create a single partition for Windows'. I have a Windows 8.1 (and 7) install disk which is recognised. Install goes smoothly.

I set up the machine and it does it's thing installing updates and new apps during first time load. Then I get to the log in screen, log in with my Microsoft account details and the desktop loads for a few seconds and then it goes blue and gives me the CACHE_MANAGER error.

This happens when i try and install Windows 7 too! Exactly the same issue.

Any help would be amazing!

Remove the Sonnet and test. Do you have the original GPU that came with the MP?

Sadly I don't have the original. Was given away as a gift to a friend. Will try removing the Sonnet when I get back to the office and see what happens.

    Hi Loner T

tried taking out the Sommet and still the same. Can't find a replacement graphics card as my old one a friend sold with the computer he sold.

Thinking it it must be something to do with that. Is there any way to install the graphics processor drivers from outside the Windows environment?

Could it also be a RAM problem? Cache Manager seems to be to do with something along those line. Perhaps Windows isn't recognising the full RAM capacity or it too much?

The CACHE_MANAGER error is usually a manifestation of a driver failing and/or violating some memory management routines. For example, please see Re: CACHE_MANAGER error on Windows 10 . There are several others like these with variants. You can test with the suggested work around.

Thank you Loner T! I'll have a look and see if I can come up with anything that works.
