Q: AirPort Express no internet connection on mobile devices

Hello,

I have setup an Airport Express in our classroom as a wi-fi network connecting to the internet via a LAN. The setup went smoothly and laptops / desktops can connect to the network and access the internet with no problems.

The problems arise when I connect a mobile device to the network, it connects to the network with no problems but I can't get internet access. I have tried a iPhone 4s, iPhone 5c, iPad and several other smart phones all with the same results.

Does anyone have any advice on what I might be doing wrong?

Regards.

iPhone 4S, Windows 10

Is there another router upstream of the AirPort Express that is providing NAT & DHCP services. That is, is it performing as your school's "main" router for access to the Internet?

If so, it may be possible that this router is configured to only accept certain devices based on their respective MAC hardware addresses (these addresses have nothing directly to do with Apple or Macintosh) and are assigned to each device by the manufacturer. This would be known as MAC filtering and is used to prevent "undesirable" network clients from accessing the Internet.

Finally, when trying to access the Internet with these iOS devices, can you access a web site by entering its IP address instead of its URL. For example, instead of typing www.apple.com in a web browser, enter: 104.126.37.85
