Q: About My Mac - Photos Storage Block

So I've been getting "start up disk full" messages for a while and have been battling with cleaning space on my 2012 MacBook Pro (OS X El Capitan).

I have downloaded and used Clean My Mac 3 and cleared caches. I have removed all unnecessary applications and media files. I removed all photos, iPhoto, and Photo Booth libraries from my mac completely. Trash has been securely deleted.

The problem seems to be this "Photos" bucket when I run the About My Mac - Storage. The photos section is showing as 108.1 GB ?!!!.

Does anybody know why this is? Again for clarity, I do not have photos, iPhoto, or Photo Booth libraries on my mac (and have not for a while, as I use external hard drives). I also have removed all iPod/iphone/ipad back ups and iTunes media applications.

Any idea what 108.1 GB could be for Photos? I can't imagine it would be album artwork, as my iTunes media photo is only 51 GB.

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks in advance!!

When you updated to El Capitan, you likely migrated your iPhoto Library to Photos. Check Users > your user account > Pictures folder for a Photos Library file.

First uninstall Clean My Mac ASAP.  It's a very dangerous app and can do more damage to a library and system than good.  It's considered to be like malware around here.

There is no need for using any "cleaning", "optimizing" or speedup apps on a Mac.

How much free space do you have on your HD?

Next, reindex your hard drive according to this Apple document: Rebuild the Spotlight index on your Mac - Apple Support.  Check the amount of free space on your hard drive by Control (right) - clicking on its icon and selecting "Get Info" from the contextual menu.  The info window will tell you how much available free space you have on the drive.
