Q: El Capitan Server 5.1 file sharing doesn't populate windows

Just installed the server about a week ago and yesterday it started to randomly not display the files in the window - the gear at the bottom right corner would spin and spin but wouldn't connect. Sometimes if you leave it alone for a few minutes (in a busy office!!!!!!!!!!) the window will eventually populate. Sometimes relaunching the finder shakes it back into place and the window will populate. Sometimes, however, that completely crashes the finder and they have to restart their computers, and then it'll run fine for a bit. This happens to most computers in the office at one time or another, not all at the same time.

Looking at Connected Users shows that sometimes the problematic user is connected via AFP, but not always. and once there appeared to be 3 connections from the same (static) IP address. and when I disconnected the two that were not the user, the problem went away for a bit.

There are 6 client computers and the server in the office, and the principal often connects remotely using Logmein to her office client computer and then to the server file sharing - that displays the same problem. We haven't set up VPN yet.  This morning there are 3 connections from that static IP, one is AFP, the user is logged in from Logmein, and yet she's not been having problems.

The server is a Mac Pro (mid 2010), 6GB RAM, starting up (and server running on) on a PCI slot SSD 250GB drive and the data is loaded on a 2TB hard drive in one of the bays.
