Q: Can no longer add music files to itunes 12

Hi,

Just bought a load of new CDs in a garage sale and I want to import them to itunes. iTunes no longer asks if I want to import from the disks so I added them to the itunes music folder manually. Then I went to add files to library. With one album it imports it allows me to add to a playlist and downloads artwork. As soon as I close itunes however it goes. No longer to be found. Not on the recently added or anything. The other CDs will not be added at all. Nothing happens when I click add to library.

Just as an extra layer of fun - everytime I create a new playlist it is deleted when I close down itunes.  I was a lone voice saying itunes wasn't as bad as everyone said for years but it has got progressively worse with every update.

Does anyone have a solution for this or perhaps a better media manager. And no, I have no interest in Apple Music sucking up my monthly data package...

Thanks

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

    Hi Stenton,

I understand that you are having some troubles with importing music from CDs to iTunes. I know it's nice to be able to have your entire music collection in one place, so I'm happy to provide some help for this.

To start, make sure that you've updated iTunes:

Get the latest version of iTunes - Apple Support

Then in order to make the process a bit more automated, you can import the CDs directly into iTunes, instead of manually managing your files and artwork:

iTunes 12 for Mac: Import songs from CDs

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities, cheers!

Thanks for the reply. In answer to the points you raised 1: It is the latest version of iTunes. 2: I did manage to import one of them from the CD and while it appears in my library it will not appear in iTunes itself. When I add it to the library manually it will import them into iTunes but when I close the app and open it again it is gone. iTunes wouldn't give me the choice to import the other Cds so I did it manually. They are all in the library but no matter how many times I add them they will not appear in iTunes at all. 5 albums - in the library but not showing in iTunes. Same problem with new playlists. I add one and when I reopen iTunes later it is gone.
