Aug 19, 2016 10:50 PM in response to Shanashleeby LarryHN,Ok - then since it works when the Internet is off then as suggested in the iPhoto preferences set look up places to never

And of course you do not want iPhoto running when you do a backup as while it is running the iPhoto library is open and can not be backed up

Aug 19, 2016 10:53 PM in response to Shanashleeby Terence Devlin,A lot of older versions of iPhoto 11 are having this right now:
Huxly647 figured out this fix
1. goto /Applications/iPhoto.app/Contents/Resources
2. delete the files ' googlemap.html ' and googlesearch.html
Iphoto no longer crashes, places doesn't work but it doesn't bother me too much.
As for backing up:
Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store
