Aug 18, 2016 3:58 PM in response to David Plummerby David Plummer,Thanks for the response. Since that's the version of Safari (6.2.8) that I have installed, why can't Safari open certain pages that I attempt to access from a Google search?

Aug 18, 2016 4:00 PM in response to David Plummerby Niel,Without knowing what happens when you try, if it isn't simply due to the browser being outdated, it's very difficult or impossible to say.

Aug 18, 2016 4:13 PM in response to Nielby David Plummer,Other Safari users (with comparably outdated versions as 6.2.8) have experienced the same problem; some comments suggest it's a problem with Safari containing 'outdated' security 'codes' that cause Safari inquiries to be rejected. Inquires to various sites where this rejection has occurred do not elicit any responses. Surely Apple know what the problem is, and how to correct it.

Apple WatchHi .
If you upgrade to El Capitan v10.11, that would install Safari version 9.1.2 so you can use Google search.
See if your Mac meets the requirements here > Upgrade to OS X El Capitan - Apple Support
Keep in mind, Apple has not provided security updates for Safari 6 in years so hopefully you can upgrade your Mac.

Aug 18, 2016 6:04 PM in response to David Plummerby Larry Israel,★HelpfulIt's because it's no longer being updated, and some sites want strong security. Like paying a bill the other day, I got a message saying I could try to pay using Safari, but that it would be better if I used a web browser with more up to date security. I used Firefox, which still updates for 10.8.5, and it worked fine. So I use Safari for what I can, and use Firefox when I can't use Safari.

Aug 18, 2016 6:08 PM in response to Larry Israelby David Plummer,Thanks Larry!
Your solution seems a lot better than updating to Yosemite (based on what I've read). Sure is a shame that Apple has changed it's 'business plan' to thumb it's profit-seeking nose at all us old timers ...
Cheers,
Dave P.
