Q: I need to reinstall OS but have no recovery partition
My Mac is about 6 years old. Recently my hard drive failed and has been replaced but I have no recovery partition. Just a blank hard drive I can boot from a bootable device but I have no way to reinstall Yosemite since I don't think I got an installation DVD with it. Everything I see on the web uses the recovery mode to reinstall. I have tried to use internet recovery as well but it doesn't connect. I know this has to have happened to someone before. Any thoughts how I can reinstall before my PC friends find out my mac is dead
iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

If you have a friend or family member with a Mac with Yosemite you can create a bootable USB installer: Create a bootable installer for OS X - Apple Support
