Q: iPad Pro 9.7 Random Restart

Normally wouldn't think much of this but, I have a 2 day old iPad Pro 9.7 128GB that has restart on me twice so far. In the middle of using it, it will cut to the Apple logo on the black background for a minute before returning to the passcode screen. Oddly enough, it will accept Touch ID in place of a passcode, something it doesn't usually do when it loses power. Any idea on the cause or how to figure it out? I chatted with the tech support but they only help they could provide was to do a restore. I just performed it, but my concern is that I installed an app or enabled something causing the iPad to crash and it'll simply continue to do that due to the bad app.

I have had crashes since day 1 on 3/31/16. No one seems to know if it's hardware or software issue or App specific. This is very disturbing and makes me have lack of confidence.

For the first time the ipad restarted in the middle of a hand in a game I was playing.  When it restarted everything I had done was gone.  I can just imagine what it would be like for business people who had a restart in the middle of a letter, report etc and lost everything.  This ipad would be unusable.  I am waiting for IOS 10.  If that does not fix it I would expect Apple to recall these for one that works or a refund no matter when it was purchased.

IT is amazing that most of Apples sales people, managers, advisors and senior advisors have no knowledge of the problem. Each one of us is the only one with the problem iPad

With all respect, it is impossible for a support rep to see a problem, if it is not occurring for him/her.

I had to stop posting when I saw someone was on his fourth refurb replacement. Obviously, it is not hardware problem.

Digital equipment turns on or does not. No in between. Any engineer, from support, care to acknowledge that.

9.3.3 stopped all restarts, for me only. I have never had to return a piece of iPad hardware in the eight to nine I've owned and gifted.

Currently at 9.3.4, which were security fixes. I have currently a 128 gig, wi-fi only, 9.7 Pro.

Not a single restart since 9.3.3, I am sorry for anyone who is experiencing restarts. The problem was stopped by 9.3.3 for me only. The malicious files were able to get down to the kernel.

iOS is becoming an increasing larger target because it has become the place for writing and mastering original music. It is where most advancements are being made and more resources of app companies are being diverted to this format.

I know how absolutely frustrating it must be.

I have never used any product that would void my warranty or open my machine number, ID, personal information or documents to the maker of such products.

Perhaps that may be the key. Just my opinion, worth nothing.

IM on my 3rd iPad Pro 9.7 256 gb + cell.. I've had the same issues and for some reason it's now spread to all programs.  It shuts down but restarts straight away..

ITs a a total system bug

I have had my iPad Pro 9.7 128gb cellular for a couple of weeks and it does this random reset thing about once every other day. I assumed it was an app thing, and was uninstalling and reinstalling the apps that I was using when it happened.

But I'm no longer believing it is an app issue, because there doesn't seem to be any pattern to the resets.

One other hardware aspect to consider is whether or not you're trying different sync cables in-between different devices. A defective or possibly out of spec (i.e. Not MFI certified) sync cable could short out the device in unique and interesting ways that could cause this to occur.

I was disappointed to see my shiny new iPad Pro 9'7 256Gb with cellular soft reboot itself every now and then, maybe once a day or two. Ios 9.3.4, no luck, reboots continue. Fingers crossed for IOS 10. Doesn't it show how Apple pays no attention to proper quality control of its software! This bug is obvious to anyone who has used new ipad for a couple of days! Surely it may be due to third party apps, but they need to test ipads loaded with all popular appstore apps before shipping a given IOS version! For those who say they see no reboots, just load more apps, and use the ipad a bit harder, and they will come!

I Agree totally! I'm on my 4th new iPad Pro 9.7 256, and have a ongoing ticket with apple support.. Their solution is to replace the unit.. Mine restarts at least 5-6 times during heavy use.

I Don't think it will be sorted soon

Sorry about the problem you are having. Everyone had the same problem. I don't want to gloat or even approach that but it bothered me as well.

Since the update, I have had not had one restart since 9.3.3.

I know it's not hardware, I'm sorry to say this far down the line from initial sales day, the person who has four, has three refurbs or not, I really don't know. I applaude Apple for giving you four different devices.

There has has to be a reason that is common to those who are still experiencing the problem. I doubt if it is an app problem either.

Those who still have it should get together, maybe by private message to see who has what on their devices.
