Q: sound files not playing sound after relinking

I recently moved a project from one drive to another.

When i reopened the project file i had to relink all the media files which seemed to be very successful. However the sound files dont seem to play any sound. When i reveal one of the sound files in the finder window, it take me to an alias file. When i try to open this file it says that the original file can not be found.

I have tried to delete the whole library of sound files and reimport them back in again. But it still doesn't fix this ridiculous issue.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Are the sound files protected music?

    No,

They are production audio files that were directly recorded from Tascams. All audio files are .WAVS

The files were playing perfectly well on my assistant editors project, but once i transferred the whole library/project file on to a separate drive for me to then reconnect all the files back, thats when i encountered this issue.

A very strange issue that i cannot figure out.

So these are sync clips. Are you relinking an event or a project? If a project, select a clip and pass Shift-F. Does the audio appear in the browser? Are you using external or managed media? How exactly did you move the project? There are issues related to this, especially with XML.

Yes the clips have been synced and are in multi-clipped sequences.

All the multi-clips are contained in an event.

We moved the media simply by transferring it from one drive to another as well as move the library and project file to that same drive.

Im actually very new to fcpX so im assuming that this process may have been a bad idea.

When i open a multi-clipped sequence and press shift+F it does take me to the browser but the clip just wont omit any sound. The waveforms also don't appear.

Common practice if clips to sync that are going to multi cams is to sync everything video and audio inside the multicam clip rather than to sync the video and audio first separately, assuming there is camera audio.

The way I would transfer to another editor in this situation is to make a new transfer library and copy the elements you want into it from inside FCP. Then pass over the library to the other editor. If the other editor doesn't have the media already then consolidate the transfer the library before sending it on.

    Thanks for this tip,

    I will try this method.
