Q: iPod Classic recognized by iTunes but won't sync

I just bought a refurbished iPod Classic (6th Gen. 160GB). The iPod looks and functions as if it were brand new. I connected the iPod to my laptop and iTunes recognizes it. However, when I try syncing the iPod, nothing happens. The load bar that would say "Beginning Sync" appears for a split second, then goes away, and I get the prompt saying "iPod sync is Complete." However, nothing synced. I restored the setting on the iPod and even made sure I upgraded to the latest version of iTunes, to no luck. My computer is and has been authorized for iTunes and I even changed the name of my iPod in iTunes, as it was the same name of my old iPod, to see if it made any difference. Not sure what to do here, especially since Classics are discontinued.

Some iPod Classic's even though being refurbished have trouble recognizing a new computer. The previous owner probably plugged his iPod into his computer many times. Somewhat like when you plug your phone into the computer for the first time, the phone and computer sync together. Although you restored the setting on the iPod, I would try and bring it back to factory settings, if there even is this option. Hope this helps, best of luck

Yep, tried restoring it to factory settings but no luck. It seems the iPod and the computer recognize one another, I get all the usual signs and prompts from both iPod and iTunes that the iPod is connected and recognized. It just seems to not sync. I have all my music on an external hard drive and that was never an issue as far as syncing.

Could it be that the iPod is "new" to the computer? Up until last week I've been using the same iPod for years (until the drive gave out). Can an iTunes library only be synced to one iPod and that's it? Kind of a dumb question, I know, but just trying to take any and all factors into account.

Take a look at Corrupt iPod Classic just to rule out any obvious issues with the hard drive.

Devices (apart from iPhones) can be manually manged with multiple libraries, but sync with one. An iTunes library can sync with multiple devices, each having their own selection of synced content. You do have to choose what is going to be synced.
