Q: Former iPhoto & Aperture User in Mourning
Before converting to El Capitan (ver 10.11.6) I enjoyed using iPhoto and Aperture. Although Photos effectively replaces iPhoto, there are situations when I liked having the deep features of Aperture. After not reading all the fine print I learned the hard way that those apps would no longer function when running El Capitan. iPhoto is not so much an issue, but losing Aperture is a bitter pill to swallow especially considering what I paid for the application.
The App store keeps sending updates for iPhoto and Aperture, but the OS will not allow me to apply them. Is it recommended that I delete these apps from my system (iMac), moving forward with Photos? At a minimum, what is the solution to stop getting the updates? Ideally, is there an option to somehow continue using Aperture?
Your expertise and interest is really appreciated.
Sincerely,
Phillip McDowell

You will need to be a bit more specific as I am running El Capitan and I still use Aperture. True, it is no longer supported, but it certainly still works with El Capitan (I do not know if it will still work with the new OS coming out this fall though). For that matter, so does iPhoto. Photos is installed by default, but it does not delete iPhoto - when you want to open a photo, you can simply bring up the get info window by highlighting the photo icon and pressing Command + I. Then change the application you want to use with this photo - or all of them - to iPhoto.
