Q: Ethernet Port on Apple TV Not Working

Model: A1625 (64 GB) | tvOS 9.2.2 (13Y825)

The house has hardwired Cat5 jacks and connects directly to the ISP Router.  I don't have any other fancy network equipment.

I was away on vacation and had unplugged the surge protector to the TV and Apple TV.  I returned home and plugged everything in and powered the TV and Apple TV on and the Apple TV won't connect to the network via Ethernet.  At the time the tvOS was 9.2.1.  I receive the following message:

"Error

Your device may not be connected to the Internet.  Please make sure your connection is working and try again.  Code:-1009"

I tried unplugging, rebooting, new cables, etc. nothing worked.  The Apple TV will connect via Wi-Fi so I performed the Software Update to bring the tvOS up to date with version 9.2.2 told Apple TV to forget the Wireless Network and restarted everything and it still won't connect.  Appreciate any ideas?

Test the specific Ethernet outlet you're using with ATV on other equipment, like a laptop.

Thanks Rysz for the suggestion but I don't have a device to test the outlet with which is by I by-passed the outlet and plugged a cable in to a working port on the router which didn't resolve the issue.  Apple Support has nothing to offer other than for me to take the device into a store.

Unfortunately, if this is a hardware issue, taking it for evaluation/service is the only option.

Another suggestion. When you open Settings > Network and the ethernet connection, does it receive an IP address and DNS? Or does it display a bogus default value? I'm just wondering if your LAN connection is good, but the DNS you're using is giving bad information.

Thanks!  But I used a port for one of my other devices.

The values are blank unless I connect it via Wi-Fi.

So it sounds like it's not connected to the LAN at all, as you surmised. And since you tested a direct cable connection, the in-wall cable is ruled out. So it may actually be the ATV hardware.

I finally had a chance to take the ATV in to my local Apple store and the conclusion was that the Ethernet Port failed.  Apple issued a replacement as my ATV was still under warranty.
