Q: Mac Mini 2012 and LG 34" Class UltraWide IPS Gaming Monitor 34UM57-P

I just purchased the LG 34" Class UltraWide IPS Gaming Monitor 34UM57-P (see link below) and connected it using Thunderbolt to HDMI.  I couldnt see the resolution that is recommend (2560x1080) for this monitor in my display settings so I searched the internet and found a suggestion to use a SwitchResX and had some luck with that but the best available seemed to be the 2560x1600 which I currently use.  I have read that using a Mini DisplayPort (Thunderbolt Port Compatible) to DisplayPort Cable (see link below) might help but would I then be able to see the recommended 2560x1080 either in the SwitchResX app or my display settings or am I better off using the 2560x1600?  With SwitchResX i can create a custom resolution but at the bottom of that tab it says I need to modify my System Integrity Protection to create a custom resolution.  Can you guys please provide me some direction or opinions?  Thank you
