Q: AppleTV Not recognizing HomeShared library

Hi all, for those who saw this post in its previous location, I have decided to move it. That's why it's here, no one replied to it in the HomeSharing category so hopefully someone helps here .

My apple TV (3rd gen, Model A1469, Software version 7.2.1) does not recognize the HomeShared libraries of either my laptop or desktop, both of which have different content downloaded.
Now, before someone comes up with a copy paste of the troubleshooting page,
All devices are on the same network.

All devices have home sharing enabled.

All devices are using the same account for homesharing and itunes.
I have rebooted the router.

iTunes is open on both computers all the time.
I have rebooted the devices, in all possible orders.

Now, I thought the appleTV just wasnt interacting with any other computers, but I can airplay from both computers to the AppleTV.
Now, at first I thought the ATV was just streaming from the internet and not actually from the computer, so I forced it to via the Airplay option "Play iTunes in the Cloud" (I set that from Auto to Off). Airplay still work.

So, that leads me to conclude that it can interact with the computers, but simply refuses to acknowledge their library for Homesharing for whatever reason.

Has anyone had this problem before?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Apple TV (3rd generation), Other OS, tvOS 7.2.1 (8011)

Have you checked the required computer firewall settings for home sharing. I won't link the troubleshooting page, since you've already seen it.

Are you related to the poster of this Apple TV not recognizing my iTunes (Home Shared) libraries? You have very similar writing styles...

I've seen your other post, I can't speak for everyone of course but telling people how to answer your question often results in them not bothering, which is possibly why it got no responses. You may have meant well, but historically these types of questions sometimes produce quite nasty responses when someone trying to be helpful mentions something that has already been tried.

How would I check computer firewall settings for homesharing? And no, Im not the poster of the post you linked, but you are right, the writing styles are very comparable.

Im a bit curious as to how I was telling people how to answer my question, the other post is extremely similar to this one, just without the note at the top.
As for the nasty responses thing, well, knowing myself, in my case I do not believe that would occur.
    Anyways, thanks for the feedback.

Start with Get help with Home Sharing - Apple Support. The last section on that page discusses the ports that need to be open and how you might check for them. If your computer has third party antivirus software that may sometimes include a firewall component.

I know! Thanks for being helpful!
Others just prefer to be stubborn, immature and condescending, specifically Diana McCall.

    Gee, aren't you salty.
I'll have you know I just wanted to make sure the steps on the troubeshooting page were accurate enough.
And, while I had seen those, I had concluded that since I can homeshare from one PC to another, just not the appleTV, it couldn't logically be due to port forwarding, since homesharing itself was working, just not with the AppleTV.
So, its likely your post wasn't helpful in the first place, but I wanted to give it a shot anyway. Seeing how rude you are, and seeing that you have a habit of being this way throughout the discussions communities, I'll ignore anything you have to say from now on.
EDIT: Also, your statement is somewhat invalid. I roughly stated "before someone copy pastes the troubleshoot page: ...." with the list of things I had done. Since, I didnt mention having done the homesharing, turingtest2 was being helpful, unlike you.
    Enjoy your day.

Does your network make use of fixed IP addresses, or is everything handled by the router using DHCP? The latter option appears to be more reliable when it comes to the discovery processes that allow devices to see each other.

I'd be very surprised if Diana meant to be any of those things, it's simply not like Diana to be like that.

Thanks Winston. I'll just let it lie. Maybe you or tt2 can resolve whatever the actual problem is. Cheers.

I have a static IP address due to my use of port forwarding and virtual servers. Unfortunately reverting to a dynamic IP address is not an option for me.. Do you know of any workarounds? Thanks
