Q: Alert Detector

I've searched my computer and cannot find the file for Alert Detector. I remove it in privacy settings but as soon as I log back in it's back! driving me nuts. It's not showing in my firewall at all. What now?

Try running this program and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor.  Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. On the screen with Options, please open Options and check the bottom 2 boxes before running. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.

Try going to the hard drive level Library/Launch Agents and remove the 2 files above. Repeat with the file for Launch Agent. Move the files to the Trash, but don't empty the Trash. Log out/in and test. If everything is normal, empty the Trash.

Firefox is crashing. Try quitting it and see if that helps. If so, try reinstalling it.

Adding more RAM might help since the OS is quitting processes.. The 2 places I’ve seen recommended most to buy reliable RAM are below. I have purchased RAM several times from Other World Computing and have always been very satisfied with the product and service. They have on-line instructions on how to replace the RAM. OWC has also tested RAM above what Apple states is the maximum. I now have 6GB installed on a early 2008 iMac supposedly limited to 4 GB and noticed an improvement.

Awesome! I've found it and deleted it. I recently upgraded the ram and noticed a huge difference already but I will try adding more. I cant afford to quit my macbaby yet so I'm happy to try to keep it alive longer . Thank you for your help, so appreciated.

You are welcome. I don't think memory comes in 3 GB pieces. I've seen 1, 2, 4 and more. Check the Other World computing website in my last link.
