Q: iPad Mini Location Service no longer working

Last month, I've updated my iPad Mini from iOS 7.1 to 9.3.2 just to play PokeGO (first time after 2 1/2 years of usage without updating my iPad). After the update, the Location Services/GPS is working properly on Apple Maps and Google Maps with no sign of problems, even I was able to get into PokeGO game (even if the game is buggy mess from the start).

However one day when 9.3.3 update went live, it always prompt me to update my iPad, but when I tried to open any Maps, the Location Services/GPS is no longer working. I've tried to reset the router, turning off/on Location Services, then reset network settings and location on my iPad, but still not solved.

And just recently I've updated my iPad to 9.3.4 'cause my theory is that Location/GPS will not working without installing the latest update, however I gave up that my iPad is already bricked 'cause Location Services and all GPS-required Apps are now rendered useless.

iPad Mini, iOS 9.3.4

Is your iPad mini a cell model with GPS? If not, your location is only estimated from WiFi and IP addresses. That said, you need to check the settings for the apps, to be sure access to Location is enabled. And if it is, turn it off and back on for each one. You've made such a large jump in iOS versions that it's hard to know what security changes have been made. You probably ought to review all your settings, just as if it was a new setup. Also, be sure your apps are all updated.

My iPad is standard without cells. Settings hasn't really changed from previous version but with few additions that aren't much necessary. From what I've heard there's ongoing issues regarding to Location/GPS not working since 9.2.

I understand there may be problems with GPS, but your iPad does not have GPS. Have you checked the settings for the apps, to be sure access to Location is enabled? This was a new privacy feature introduced with iOS 8, so you may not have seen it before. You can also check under Settings > Privacy > Location Services.

Do you have an iPad with WiFi + Cellular? Or WiFi only? If it's WiFi only, you don't have GPS. Your iPad approximates its location for Wifi.

It is WiFi only. Location for Maps and Google Maps worked fine for a long time but it has been an issue for the past year I'd say.

This may depend more on your ISP and the configuration of their routers than on anything Apple can do.

Not ISP or router. Already looked at that.

Researching previous issues suggests two things that might help. First, restart the iPad by holding Sleep and Home buttons until the Apple appears. I recommend doing this after every update, whether it needs it or not. Second, reset network settings by Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Then reconnect to your WiFi. Those steps may clean out old data not consistent with the updated software.
