Q: Google drive app corrupting Finder

I was wondering if anyone else has found that when the Google Drive App is  running on OS X 10.9.5 the OS X Finder will only work in Thumbnail view.  The Google Drive App has worked fine  for several months until now  but suddenly it started interfering with Finder.  I removed the App and all is fine.  I tried downloading and reinstalling the App and the problem came back so I have had to remove it again.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

Might just be corrupted Finder preferences.

Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder

Then type or copy paste the following:

    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist

Click Go then move the com.apple.finder.plist file to the Trash.

Restart your Mac then see if the problem persists.

    Thanks Carolyn,

That was a good suggestion.  I tried it  and then reinstalled the App but unfortunately, as soon as the Google Drive App started Finder reverts to Thumbnail only view.  If I reboot with Finder open all the Finder views are initially OK and only stop working just as Google Drive app starts.

The odd thing is that the same thing happened yesterday and I was able to clear the problem by rebooting about 3 times.  I know that there have been issues with Google Drive and  Mavericks Finder in the past.  Maybe there is a clash with one of the another apps that also uses Finder (Dropbox, One Drive or Flashair drive).

This is not that important because I can still access Google Drive via Chrome.

    Thanks

    Ian

    Yes,

There is a bug in Google Drive that drastically affects the Finder in both OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion and OS X 10.9 Mavericks.

This issue happened waay back when and was presumed fixed by Google awhile back.

It looks as though this issue with Google Drive has resurfaced, once again.

So, you need to disable Google Drive on OS X 10.9 Mavericks and on 10.8 Mountain Lion.

See this posting, as well, for an update.

I've completely uninstalled the drive app as it seemed to do more harm than good. It ended up being easier to just log on to drive from google chrome and/or safari when I need to upload or download something.
