Q: Server IP address registration
There seems to be two issues in OS X Server 5.1.7 and in OS X El Capitan 10.11.6.
I'm using Server in Mac mini. Ethernet interface is connected to a hub, behind which there are security cameras. No Internet connection through Ethernet interface, a closed network. WiFi is used for connecting Mac OS, IOS devices as well as to the Internet.
Now, what ever kind of settings (All networks, private networks, only some networks, defined IP addresses, you just name it. Anything you can do through the Server GUI) I make for the Caching -service in the Server, the server is always registering the Ethernet interface IP address to Apple. And naturally, when Mac OS or iOS devices try to connect the cache for downloads, it's not found. I need to force the caching interface to be in WiFi with command:
sudo serveradmin settings caching:Interface = en1
It is a workaround, but it's pretty annoying problem.
The second issue is that after OS X El Capitan get's the non-existing cache IP address, it just tries and does not find it. Well yes, that's how it should be. But even if you put the machine to sleep, you go to work and get back to home, get out of WiFi coverage.... El Capitan is no longer asking for the new sudo forced registered IP address. Only rebooting the Mac helps. Then it is asking again the registered IP cache IP address.
iOS does. With iOS, after forcing the Server caching Interface to en1, everything works. iOS seems to be asking the cache IP address everytime, when you wake it up.
Something, what I think would be nice to be fixed?
