I understand that you want to be able to sync your iPod nano, but you can't see the proper summary screen in iTunes to select what to sync. I know it's important to have the media you want on your iPod, so I'm happy to provide some direction to help with this.
From what you've described, it sounds like you are simply browsing the media that is on your iPod, and not yet where you can sync it. Check out the steps we have provided for syncing your iPod here:
Sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iTunes on your computer using USB - Apple Support
Sync your content with iTunes
Follow these steps to manually sync the content from your computer to your iOS device:
- Open iTunes. Make sure that you have the latest version.
- Connect your device to your computer using the included USB cable. Your connected device appears as an icon in the upper-left corner of the iTunes window. Learn what to do if you don't see the icon.

- Click on the device icon
. Look under Settings on the left side of the iTunes Window for a list of the content types that you can sync from your iTunes library to your device.

I believe that step 2 in that process is key to getting this working as you expect. Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities, cheers!
