Q: Restore and update

Hi. I have some malware, and a MacBook Pro from 2009. I want to restore to factory conditions and wonder if I can get the latest OX (El Capitan?) from my App Store? I was foolish not to back up my computer. I am now saving my photos, and family info on my external hard drive, so I won't lose those. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you in advance. I think my problem was a back door download Offers.com.

MacBook, iOS 9.3.4, Actually it's Yosemite 10.10.5

About OS X Recovery - Apple Support

Erase the startup disk and reinstall the OSX version that was on the startup disk. Then update to El Capitan via the Mac App Store.

Yes, you can. Note that if you restore the computer to an OS older than 10.6.3, you’ll need to update or upgrade its OS to get the Mac App Store.

You can use the Malwarebytes utility to remove malware.

Click here > About notifications on your Apple Watch - Apple Support

Then click Download. It's free.

If you'd rather restore to factory settings, you can do that using OS X Recovery.

After you restore OS X you can download El Capitan for free from the App Store if your Mac meets El Capitan requirements > Upgrade to OS X El Capitan - Apple Support
