Q: Iphone 5 keeps searching network problem....

My iphone 5 today suddenly started started searching network,

I took out the SIM card , it still kept searching for network instead of saying no sim or no service.

I reset network settings, then all settings, turned phone on off several times, put back sim in, hard reset it etc.

I haven't restored it from itunes that I will do next but I am wondering if any one had simlar problem.

Taking SIM card out should changed it to no sim or no service but it doesn't do that so that is weird. It doesn't matter which location because I was in my car when it started searching and I came back home still the same.

Another thing is it doesn't give me an option to select carrier manually as that option has disappeared from the settings.

iPhone 5c, iOS 7.0.4

I had the same problem as described above after my phone battery drained OR the latest update (not sure of the catalyst). I tried most everything before bringing the phone to ATT, hoping they might know. Guy there put it flat on the table and described how it was bent and the bend kept the sim card from connecting. He told me I should try to bend it back or bring it in to iPhone repair. Basically he believed it couldn't be the software. I couldn't see the bend he was describing so I continued to research until I found this forum. Having had a **** poor experience with iPhone repair in the past, my last hail mary before getting a new phone was to try to restore through iTunes on the computer. IT WORKED! I know I'm one of the last hold-outs on an iphone 5, but I'm definitely glad I could find a FREE and unobtrusive solution to this problem. Good luck!

Had this problem 2 years ago after returning from long stay trip abroad (where I was going from one carrier to another). When I called my carrier at home, they said this happen from time to time... They replaced the SIM card and everything went back to normal...

By any chance, have you travelled recently ? (If this can help ...)

    Cheers,

    Rob

    Similar to someone above.

iPhone 5s showed "searching".    Reset settings and it worked for a day or two then issue returned.

Apple Store told us it was likely a bad SIM reader.

Tried a reset/restore from iTunes as a last resort and the issue was fixed (at least for now).

I had an expanding battery problem with my nearly 3 year old iphone 5 so I sent it to apple and they completely replaced the device. It is a few weeks later and I am experiencing this exact problem. signal randomly drops and won't come back without a full restore of the phone.

it has happened twice now in the past 2 days and I'm thinking I have to go back to them to get it replaced again because I'm not finding any definite answers here in discussions... anybody?
