Q: I am receiving bounced emails, which I've not sent. These emails contain a message and a link. Could I have a virus?

I am receiving returned emails, which I've not sent. These emails contain a message and a link. Could I have a virus?

I am using OS Yosemite 10.10.5. Thanking you in advance for your time.

    Not based on that. It’s probably that someone is sending email and making it look like it came from your address; this can be done without needing access to your email account.

     

    If they were sent to people you know, someone may have gotten into your information, and you should change your passwords.

    Are the messages returned because the destination address is unknown?

     

    If yes this is an evidence that your address is used but without your address book.

    Then you don't have to change any password since nothing was stolen on your Mac or on your Mail server.

    Thanks so much Daniel. This is exactly what's been happening. It seems segments of my emails are being lifted and used as the subject and are sent to say, a website. These are the ones that bounce back. What I cant tell is if some are randomly getting through via a correct email address. Then again nothing shows up as having sent in my sent folder.
