Always have a current back up in place: How to create a boot clone

To restore to factory wipes all user data, use Internet Recovery   http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718

Holding down Option-Command-R to start up from OS X Internet Recovery which will give you access to the OS X that originally shipped with your Mac (factory setting.)

I would add to the suggestion and recommend that at least two backup methods to different media are done prior to Recovery.

For example, I would never even consider doing a Mac OS update without having a TimeMachine backup to one external hard drive in addition to a bootable clone to a different external hard drive.  Then, and only then would I update or in this case do a complete wipe and reinstall.  In all actuality, I even have Cloud backup as well for a third (off-site) restore option.

I think you should finish uninstalling all versions of CleanMymac. Follow the instructions for uninstalling CleanMyMac don't just drag these apps to the trash.

Try rebooting after uninstalling the CleanMyMac apps. It has been more than 17 hours since you last booted.

Thanks for catching this one for me.

I am wondering the OP attempt to get rid of CMM via the click & drag method. If he did that is know to leave bit & piece of CMM all over his system which is what EtreCheck might be showing now.

Think maybe I need to upgrade my RAM.

You are in good hands following the advice given above.

Your performance is already increasing—once you have cleaned everything up as recommended,

then you can think about RAM upgrade. 4GB is a bare minimum these days. Check you machine specs here: https://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade
