Q: Upgrade my iMac 10,1 (Late 2009 model)

My family love our iMac 10,1(Late 2009 model).  We want to upgrade her for a better performance in speed (recently very slow in using iphoto, imovie and web browsing) and capacity (500G HDD is 85% occupied).  There is 3 areas I want to do the upgrade.  Appreciate to have some recommendation or experience sharing from other users

1. Will add the RAM from 4G to 12G (because want to keep the original 2 x 2G). I will add 2 x 4G RAM.  What model of RAM should I buy?

2. I want to upgrade the HDD from 500G to 1T.  I am sure I cannot DIY after checking the You Tube.  Does Apple provide this upgrade services? There are some computer shops can do the work but I am hesitate

3. With the RAM and HDD capacity upgrade,  I need to upgrade my old Snow Leopard OS to newer and reliable version.  Should I go straight to the latest version (EI Capitan)? Will this new version OS drag my old iMac to be very slow?

My iMac 10,1(21.5") configuration

- 3.06GHz Intel Core Duo 2

- 4GB 1067MHz DDR3

- OS X : 10.6.8

Thanks for your sharing in advance
