Q: updating safari for mac

From various websites, like my bank's, I'm getting messages saying my Safari browser is out of date, or they no longer support the version I have. When I went to the App store to look for updates, I got the message saying no updates available. What gives? I'm running 6.1.6 on OSX 10.7.5

MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.7.5), Safari Version 6.1.6 (7537.78.2)

To upgrade Safari to the latest version, you have to upgrade the OS X to OS X El Capitan.

If you don't want to upgrade OS X to the latest version,

try another browser of your choice.

    Best.

Security is changing, and as older browsers are not receiving security updates, they are excluded from secure web sites that have upgraded their security access requirements. Another reality is that browser vendors are progressively dropping support for substantially older releases of OS X, which will soon leave you on an island (OS X Lion) with no secure browsing support.

El Capitan 10.11.6 comes with Safari version 9.1.2.

That is the latest version of Safari available.

From where do you get the "Safari out of date" message? Banks?

You can only use SeaMonkey on Lion as for now. Other browser are out of date.

Another thing you can do is install Windows 7 / 10 on your MacBook.
