Q: iPhone 6 plus intermittent unresponsive screen

So a couple days ago, my iPhone 6+ began having intermittent screen responsiveness. First time, I received a phone call and couldn't answer it because the swipe wouldn't work. I turned it off and back on with no luck. I reset it and that fixed it. That was the only issue that day. I the last few days it's becoming more frequent. Today alone I've had to reset it eight times.

What it's doing;

  • touch screen is unresponsive to touch entirely.
  • touch screen responds after a delay
  • I tap an app icon and the app two rows up opens instead.
  • from loch screen-can't answer phone calls or notifications.

Sometimes it just leave it alone and come back to it and it's fine. Sometimes I leave it alone and come back with same result and I have to reset it. Sometimes I reset it once and trying to unlock with touchscreen (because touch ID doesn't work after reset) doesn't work so I reset it twice. It has worked after the second time, so far.

The phone is in perfect condition. Never been dropped. Was updated to 8.3 the day it was released so the issue didn't arise immediately after an update.

Anyone having these issues?

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 8.3

Please note that this issue doesn't seems related to a shock. I am on the same situation, with never-felt and well protected phone.

It could be an unnoticable bent of the phone, as some already mentionned here. I will pay a visit to an apple store soon, i hope they will exchange mine, last time the genius only made a factory reset, and as after that i wasn't able to reproduce the issue in front of him, he considered the job done...

If you pinch the phone at the top and center an slightly try to bend it forwards or backwards the grey bar at the top will appear flickering or go away . It helps the chip on the motherboard make or break contact. This can be used to duplicate the problem.

I have this issue. When I went into the Apple store, they told me that this was a hardware issue. Because my phone is 6 months out of warranty (1.5 years old) they told me that I could pay for a refurbished phone or buy a new phone. If you have a shoddy product, with widespread hardware issues, you replace the phone. After supporting Apple for 15 years, it's time for me to move on. If you can't own up to your own issue, I will not invest my hard earned money with them.

I Know how you feel, I'm only a few weeks out of warranty.  Staying away from the referbs is a good idea, they will probably have the same issues.  At this point all I want is a phone that I don't have to twist and turn to get it to function properly.

Have heard good things about the s brand phones so I decided to try one.  I'm about 2 months in and wondering why I didn't do this year's ago.  Probably never would have had I not been pushed into it by poor service on a phone that was still under warranty

I am having this issue as well.  I have had my phone since release day, so I am well out of warranty. This is my third iPhone and my 7th overall when you count my wife's.  My screen is completely dead.  It started with some intermittent issues with not swiping or not recognizing a touch in the right place etc.  I would just lock the screen and start over and that generally worked.  Now, after about a month of this, it is dead all the way.  I was holing out for the new iPhone 7 that is out next month, but now I am stuck either buying a new one, or the more likely option, buying an older one to use for a month.  My screen works, and I can still receive texts.  I can answer phone calls with my Bluetooth speaker, but I can't do anything.  I have hard reset it so many times Siri won't work without my passcode, which I can't put in.  I final broke down a few days ago and went to get a replacement screen put in, as this seemed like the logical answer.  Guy told me it didn't work.  I figured he didn't know what he was talking about, and when to a very reputable place here an had him do it.  He was assuming it was the digitizer, so he replaced my screen as well, while I watched him do it, and no that is not the problem.  I am getting really upset with this, and now that I see all these same problems, I am starting to think we need someone to issue a recall like the automotive world has to. This is ridiculous.

I have the same issue, intermittent response on touchscreen.  I've had every iPhone since first generation.  As an Apple stockholder, I am disappointed.

I've had the same issue with an out-of-warranty 6 Plus for several months.  It takes a hard restart or variable amounts of torsion to get the touchscreen to work.  Don't want to buy a replacement until I upgrade and switch carriers.

Even if there's no recall or compensation, I hope Apple investigates and acknowledges the issue if it's this widespread.  Notifying potential customers would be nice, too.

Side note, was an owner of a 6 that was effected by error 53 and had to be repaired, too.  Had it out-of-warranty repaired just before it hit the news.  I was very happy with Apple contacting me proactively about adjusting the cost of the repair, even though it was already done.

For my part, if Apple doesn't address the issue in some way, I think I may be done with iPhones.  The last 2 Apple phones I purchased have been lemons, and I'd hate to see customer service slipping lower than the error 53 response.

I have this too and have gone through two screen replacements (both with no visible damage to screens). Apparently replacing the screen has some force that makes the screens work for a time period then the problem reoccurs. There is not enough contact and is very brittle.  It is suspected by repair tech that it's how the phones are made.  I hope Apple realizes this error and fixes the issue. There will be many upset users if they refuse. I am mad myself and this is something that would turn me off of future Apple products, definitely leaves me questioning my decision/choices. This may be why they do the lease program....not only planned obsolescence, but functioning normal ware and tear destruction. My phones been incased the whole time and it's frustrating.Come on Apple do the right thing and recall these phones. The auto industry fixes their mistakes.

I'm very concerned as an iPhone 6S+ owner.

My nephew had this very issue and the CSRs that he spoke with at the Apple store and on the phone claimed to have no knowledge of this.  At the time, we did not know that this is a chronic issue.  But this thread goes back to May of 2015, leaving Apple with no reasonable claim of ignorance.

They eventually replaced his phone which was under warranty.  But, so far, their behavior has been unacceptable.
