Jul 15, 2016 9:41 PM in response to devigenuoneby gail from maine,I also have a question about one thing that you have in your post that doesn't make sense, so not sure what you mean by this:
devigenuone wrote:
Their son set them up years ago (it's a first generation iPad), with icloud, and find my iPhone on HIS account but with her iCloud email.
What are you referring to when you say that Find My iPhone is on "HIS account but with her iCloud email"? The email account is the Apple/iCloud ID, so there is no other "account". What "HIS" account are you referring to?

Jul 16, 2016 5:43 AM in response to devigenuoneby LACAllen,They have an early version iPad. I updated to the latest software,
So, of course they don't have backups.
Please help me! I'm beyond frustrated.
So if you updated the iOS for them, a kind gesture for sure... why didn't you create a backup first?
This is from page 1 of update 101.
Is this also APPLE"S FAULT? (sic)

Jul 27, 2016 7:05 PM in response to Csound1by devigenuone,They stopped themselves when they forgot their login. I'm over it. They are still looking for their purchase receipt. These are apples rules, not mine. Later.

Jul 27, 2016 7:06 PM in response to Csound1by devigenuone,Right now my suggestion is don't EVER EVER EVER forget your security questions, and hang on to your proof of purchase

Jul 27, 2016 7:35 PM in response to devigenuoneby gail from maine,Since you failed to respond to my question, my ability to help you progress through this issue was completely halted. There is a way around the issue. But it requires patience and an attention to minute detail, and the willingness to stick to it.
So, at this point, there is nothing more I can do to help.
And the answer is not to "never forget your security questions", the answer is to write them down and keep them someplace safe!!!
Best of luck,

Jul 28, 2016 4:15 PM in response to Ralph9430by Supakid, surely you could just take it to the apple store and ask them to unlock it?
-
Jul 28, 2016 4:16 PM in response to Supakidby deggie,Only if you have the original receipt from when it was purchased from Apple or an Apple-authorized reseller.
-
Jul 28, 2016 7:10 PM in response to Supakidby gail from maine,Surely, you could not. The Activation Lock is put on a device to prevent thieves from being able to ever use the device, therefore, reducing the temptation to steal it in the first place. So, if you are not the original owner, and unless you have proof of purchase (meaning the original purchase receipt), which proves to Apple that you are the legitimate owner, then there is no point in taking it to the Apple Store and just asking them to unlock it.

Aug 22, 2016 3:04 AM in response to Hotshotssnipeby Dr4gonkiller96,i have the same problem but its not the previous owner its my mums old one. i have some stuff on it that my mum wants, and that the last update on the ipad mini (9.3) stuffed it up and says to enter the AppleID. but the ting is, NO ONE remembers the password, and that the Account is Locked out now that we cant reset it with the email as the email we used first of is broken and doesnt work anymore so we cant send an email, the we try a security question (DOB) and for some reason all out birth dates (5 + 2 extras) dont work, so that email and AppleID is broken totally, now im totally stuck with an ipad stuck on activation and because the we had this problem before we couldnt sign out before to put the new one in. (had same problem with Xbox Live trying to set up the new Terms & Conditions that we needed to log in mum for him to accept it, Luckily they updated the Family settings which meant i add my brother as my child and used my phone number as a verification to accept it as my mums email and the home phone wouldnt work (those were suggested) so now he can play online finally since 2 years ago he couldnt play.) this is what happens when a company is closed down making your email irrelevant for verification.

You should contact Apple and ask for iTunes account security in addition to using periods at the end of sentences as it gets tiring reading one long sentence that never ends

Aug 22, 2016 12:21 PM in response to Dr4gonkiller96by Michael Black,You could have updated the primary and rescue emails of your AppleID at any point in time. There was no need to have allowed it to completely lapse. If your email account gets shut down, you can simply login to your AppleID web management page and change the email address to another one that does work.
You will need to contact Apple security support and work with them to resurrect that AppleID.
