Q: Install Snow Leopard on iMac 2.8GHz Quad Core i5

I've just bought a refurbished 21.5 in iMac 2.8GHz Quad Core Intel Core i5 from the Apple Store to replace an ageing 21.5 in iMac 3.06 GHz Intel Core i3. The New iMac has OS 10 El Capitan 10.11.6 and the Old iMac has Snow Leopard OS 10.6.8.

I have old versions of Quark Xpress, Photoshop, Illustrator and Filemaker Pro on the Old iMac running SL and I wish to continue using these. I'm now retired and can no longer afford to upgrade.

I partitioned the HD on the new iMac and had hope to install SL and migrate all my old files from the old computer. I've tried recovering from a Time Machine back-up from the Old iMac and Installing the SL system from a bootable USB stick. Neither of these allowed me to proceed.

Has anyone else tried this and succeeded? Will I have to completely erase the HD in the new computer, partition the disc, install SL on one partition and EC on the other?

I've seen similar questions but none answer my problem. Genuine help would be appreciated.
