Q: Final Cut Pro - This is a hard one to describe - ProRes footage - exports and previews footage from a few seconds before the footage I have chosen...

Hi, this is a really hard one to describe but I hope you can understand...

I am editing in Final Cut Pro 7 and I have footage which was originally MP4 converted into ProRes for editing.

Sometimes (not always), when I lay footage onto the timeline, the preview image on the actual timeline 'block' shows footage from a few seconds before or after the footage I've selected. However, when I play it back, the canvas screen shows the footage I have selected. The main issue here is that when I export the footage, it exports the footage a few seconds before or after, so I could put together a seamless edit I'm pleased with, then when I export I get something completely different.

I hope that's clear! It's a really tough one to describe and I'm not even sure screen shots would help.

If anyone thinks they may be able to help, it would be hugely appreciated, thanks.

If you need any more info from me, please let me know.

    1) Are you confident you are working with the converted files and not the original mp4 files? (The behavior you describe is commonly reported when working with H.264 material in FCP-7).

    2) Does the frame rate of the source footage match your sequence frame rate?

    3) Have you trashed your FCP preferences?

Thanks, I actually exported the clip as ProRes again and it worked fine.

I'm not back at that edit suite until later next week so will revert back then and update you, thanks.
