Q: Unable to change wether or not apps use mobile data

Previously I had been able to restrict certain apps (YouTube and Spotify) from using my mobile data so as to not waste it. Now when I go to "settings" "mobile data" it comes up use mobile data and there is only two apps facetime and wallet which I can toggle wether they use data or not. ive looked this up and my other apps should be there but aren't. On top of the fact I would like to add certain apps to be restricted  to this as currently abroad with very limited mobile data I also want to remove some apps I've had restricted but there is no way it seems. I'm using the latest software. Does anyone have a fix for this or another way of doing it? I've been all through my settings and looked up how to do it and tried several ways with no luck!!

    Hello xxannaxx, 

     

    Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. 

     

    I see that you are unable to restrict the cellular (mobile) data for most of your apps, only two are showing. I know it's nice to be able to properly manage how much mobile data your apps use. I can help you find the best resolution. 

     

    First, please give your iPhone a fresh restart, and then test again to see if you are able to make changes in Settings > Cellular. 

     

    Next, please make sure that all of your apps in the App Store have the latest updates installed. And then test again to see if you can change for all apps. 

     

    Then, use About cellular data settings and usage on your iPhone and iPad, specifically, this section:

     

    View and adjust data usage

    Some apps from the App Store use the Apple Push Notifications to alert you of new data. Apps that use push notifications (such as instant messaging or social media apps) will use cellular data. To turn off push notifications, go to Settings > Notifications.

    To view the cellular data usage for your apps, tap Settings > Cellular. You can turn cellular data on or off for each app. Contact your carrier if you have questions about your cellular data usage.

    Check to make sure you don't have anything disabled in Settings>General>Restrictions.

    I tried this and none of it worked. Could it be to do with my carrier? However I was previously with a different carrier and from what I remember I still had this issue. I went to the Apple Store recently because of software problems and they updated me to the newest software and everything seemed to be fine apart from this issue.

    my restrictions are turned off. Nothing seems to be working. I think my only option is to pop into an Apple Store next time I can.

    Hi xxannaxx, 

     

    Thanks for trying those steps. 

     

    We have some additional steps for you to try:

    1. Turn off your Wi-Fi connection.

    2. For a moment, use the app that you want to be disabled when using cellular data.

    3. Stop using the app. 

    4. Go to Settings > Mobile and see if you're now be able to turn cellular data for that app off.
