Q: The Messenger app wont update. Stuck on "Waiting..." and greyed out logo. How can I fix this or go back to the previous edition that worked?
I received a prompt on my Ipod touch 5th gen yesterday, that there was a new update for the Messenger app. So I tried to update it however, the app is now stuck on the "Waiting..." phase and logo has been greyed out. I still receive notifications of new messages from the app, however I can not open it. I tried to delete and then reinstall the app but the app was not responding and the app store thinks I still have it open. How can I fix this and/or go back to the previous edition that worked?
Thank you in advance!

Hello cfossum,
It sounds like you are having trouble with a third-party app on your iPod touch, since Messages is part of iOS and you would not be receiving a separate prompt to update it.
The resource below will provide some troubleshooting steps for the issue you are having with the Messenger app.
If an app you installed unexpectedly quits, stops responding, or won’t open
Take care.
