Q: After changing my mac partition, bootcamp can't find windows anymore!

Hello folks,

My computer has 2 partitions, Mac os X 10.7.5 and windows 7, I had about 300gb for my Mac and 100gb for windows and 100gb unassigned. So i tried, using the disk utility to make get the Mac partition to use the unassigned space, that didn't work. So i created a third partition for my Mac to use.

On trying to reboot into windows, I got a line of text saying no bootable disk could be found. So i went back into Mac and deleted the new partition i had made, hoping this would resolve the problem… it didn't. I'm starting to panic now!

TL:DR

Orignally had 2 partitions, created a 3rd for Mac, couldn't boot into windows, deleted the new partition, still can't boot into windows, panicking...

Please post the output of the following OSX Terminal commands.

    diskutil list

    sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

Enter your password when prompted by the "sudo" commands.

The gap between GPT3 and GPT4 usually indicates a 'lost' NTFS header. Can you use El Capitan has deleted my bootcamp windows partition as a references, and download and install Testdisk and GPT Fdisk and start a Testdisk scan and look for MS Data entries. The linked discussion has a sequence of screen shots progressing through Testdisk.

I've installed Testdisk, and i'm looking through the thread you linked. It's still all very complicated (for me) and i'm at a lost on what parts of your solution apply to my situation!

We are looking for a NTFS entry which falls in this highlighted gap.

    527285744    1269536      3  GPT part - 426F6F74-0000-11AA-AA11-00306543ECAC

    528555280  250469104

    779024384  197748736      4  GPT part - EBD0A0A2-B9E5-4433-87C0-68B6B72699C7

In the linked thread, you start Testdisk as

    sudo testdisk /dev/rdisk0

This assumes that testdisk binary is in your current directory. Modify the path to ensure it is in the correct directory.

    The:

    sudo testdisk /dev/rdisk0

command doesn't work… which means i have to change the directory path? Another thing i don't know how to do!

I really sorry but I find all these terminal operations darn-right confusing and a bit scary.

Can i not just double click the testdisk to start results shown below

I am really sorry but i can't make heads or tails of your other answer, if you could walk-me-through the solution i would be very grateful.

In the Terminal window, press Enter on the Create option. Post a screen shot of the Terminal Window on the next screen.

Using up/down arrow/cursor keys can change what you highlight. You do not need to press enter/return to select/highlight. Extra return/enter can sometimes cause more problems.

With EFI/GPT highlighted, press Enter/Return once. Post the next screen shot.
