Q: 'Magic' mouse does not scroll

This so-called 'magic' mouse came with my iMac. It simply does not work; I've followed every piece of advice & guidance - have gone into the settings & ticked all the relevant functions - but the 'scroll' function does not exist. I roll my finger down the mouse, exactly as in the guidance illustrations - and absolutely nothing happens. All this does is bring up a scroll bar on the right-hand side, so I then have to move over & use the scroll bar - something I've not had to do for years with my Windows PC & wireless mouse with a wheel. Is this seriously how this mouse is meant to work? I.e. it simply activates a 1990's style scroll bar?! If so I think this is a bit of a cheek; Macs are not cheap; they could at least have supplied it with a proper functioning mouse. Especially given that it also comes with tiny stunted keypad with some crucial functions missing. I will now have to replace both of these - at additional expense!

I had this same problem randomly and none of the preferences changes or deletion of files worked for me. What did was going into Bluetooth setting, unpairing the trouble mouse, and then pairing it with the computer again.

We had the Mouse stop scrolling but it seemed to be doing everything else- we simply replaced the batteries and it started working again. Maybe we were lucky, but we have worn the batteries down before without the scroll stop working so not sure what made it happen. It is working fine now with new batteries.

My magic mouse is now working as expected. In addition to the plist file mentioned above I had to also remove the plist file "com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch.mouse" on the same folder. Obviously I am not sure if this is what fixed the issue, but after I removed it and rebooted my macbook air my magic mouse is now back with all its advanced gestures. In addition, the mouse that is show on the screen when the mouse connects/disconnects resembles the magic mouse. Previously, I would be shown a representation of a much older Apple mouse. I hope this helps somebody out there struggling with these annoyances.

I've been experiencing all sorts of issues with the bluetooth connection of my magic mouse to my macbook air since the update to 10.10.2 .

I've tried a number of different approaches but the one that did the trick was turning Wifi off.

Sadly, for some of us, the 10.10.2 update that was supposed to "solve bluetooth issues" actually brought problems that weren't there before.

Had the same problem, no scrolling. What resolved the issue was restarting the computer (late 2013 3.2 GHz iMac; OS 10.10.2)

oh great.... Mine just quit scrolling (it still tracks fine, but the lack of scrolling has proven to be much more of an annoyance and hindrance than i would have guessed).  Helluva thing when something this $$ just fails 1/2 the time.

I agree. I bought my mouse this past Saturday and it stopped scrolling on Wednesday. I have tried the restart but frankly, seeing as to how I also bought the laptop on Saturday and had to return it for a new one on Tuesday, this is a dismal outlook for apple. On principle it seems ridiculous I  should be messing with PRAM or what nots when the items are brand new. To say that this has been a letdown is putting it lightly.

I fixed this in my Macbook Pro, maybe you have to use another USB mouse to complete the tests.

    1. Open "Bluetooth Preferences" and remove Magic Mouse.

    2. After, open System Preferences > Mouse > Configure Bluetooth Mouse. (Maybe in this step, the Bluetooth settings are showing you a message to add again the mouse. Click in "cancel" and check the option the said about "ignore this mouse/device").

    3. Turn off and turn on your Magic Mouse with the "Configure Bluetooth Mouse" window opened. Your device are appear here. Click in "Continue". Now, you can configure scroll and other settings to your preference.

    I hope that helps you.

I get to step two of your instructions and my computer just says "wait for a Bluetooth mouse to be discovered or connected" and it says "no mouse found" so it won't let me configure anything. The magic mouse is charged up too.

Thank you for taking the time to offer help though.

I am just extremely frustrated that something so new is giving so much trouble. I am to the point of tossing this stupid mouse out the window and getting another one. I bet Steve Jobs is rolling in his grave over how much quality had gone down in Apple products. The "brand new MacBook Air" also had to be returned for a new one!

My Magic Mouse 2 is not scrolling. I tried all advices, and it is still not working. It looks like I have to upgrade to El Capitan. Is that true ?

Anyway upgrading to El Crapitan makes my Mac out of order for the Wifi connection and the email, as I head formerly. So I quickly came back to the 10.10.5, with my old batteries Mouse less Magic.

I tried everything in this forum. Nothing works and my magic mouse never scrolled. I recently switched to mac from Windows because I was sick of such problems in Windows. I heard mac hardware and os was more stable.
