Q: iCloud photo file type help!

Apparently there is a small range of file types that iCloud photos can backup.  You get a few file types for photos and videos such as .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .mp4.  However, when I use iCloud.com and photos (dragging and dropping) to back up my library, it says "only jpeg files are supported".  I have numerous .mov and .mp4 videos that won't save.  I have about 15,000 photos and videos that I'd like to backup and show on all of my devices, but I just don't know how to get them all there because of this error.  If I use my iPhone, it syncs up all photos and videos correctly, but I need to get all of my old photos and videos backed up that won't fit on my current devices.

I don't have this problem with Microsoft's OneDrive or Google Photos.  I can drag any file in and it saves and shows up automatically.  However, I don't trust those services in the long term because of privacy issues.  My fears might be unwarranted, but I don't want anyone using my family photos for analytics or advertising.  Right now, the only company I trust with my photos is Apple.

Someone please help.  I'm not sure why I'm getting this error.

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

Apple does not currently offer a cloud backup service for Macs. It is possible to backup iOS devices (iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch) to iCloud but not Macs. iCloud Photo Library is NOT a backup.

iCloud Photo Library is designed to sync photos between devices. iCloud Photo Library is NOT a backup. Any change or deletion that you make on any device (intentionally or accidentally) will automatically be synced to iCloud and all of your other devices.

Have you tried syncing with the computer using Photos or Image Capture? The files would then get backed up by your computer backup.
