Q: can you use 3rd party apps to watch network shows?
I am thinking about getting the new 4th gen apple tv, can you use 3rd party apps to watch network shows such as Animal Planet with the Animal Planet app ?

Generally yes, if the channel has provided an app. If it's a cable channel, you still need a cable provider to access the internet version, and you can only access channels in your package.
