Q: iTunes iPad

Today I had to swap out my modem as the wifi connection was having issues.  All went well until about 30 minutes ago.  I launched iTunes and my iPad is not showing up at all.  My iPhone is, but not the iPad.  Not sure what is going on.  I restarted both the iPad and iTunes multiple times.  I turn on and off wifi on the iPad which in the past seemed to help.  But this time, nada.

Thanks for any assistance you may have/give

Make sure your Mac's software (OS X) and iTunes are up to date.

Open System Preferences > App Store then click: Check Now

    Ok ..

    1. Hold down the Option key, click the Apple menu, and choose System Information or System Report.
    2. Select USB from the list on the left.
    3. If you see your iPhone, iPad, or iPod under USB Device Tree, uninstall third-party security software. If not, contact contact Apple Support.

The only way its going to show up in iTunes over wifi is if at some point you set up Wifi Sync for it.

However to do that, you need to have connected it to your computer using the USB cable at least once to set it up.

Your only option here, is to connect it using USB and make sure Wifi sync is turned on.

Never had to do that before, not even with the old modem which is the only thing that has changed.  I have never used USB for anything..........

When I bought the  iPad, i just turned it on, connected to the network and it was up and running no issues until this afternoon after installing the new modem.  So why does it recognize my phone????

Are you saying connect my desktop to the modem via USB?

No. Connect the iPad to the desktop computer using the USB cable that is packaged with the iPad.  The white one you use to charge it as well. That's the only way it will show up in iTunes in your computer unless you've set up Wifi sync.

This is the way it has always been and it has not changed.

Or are you referring to something else?

Where is it not showing up then?

I will have to try that tomorrow since nothing else is suggested or working.  I will have to get a USB cord.  I bought the iPad a while ago and i don't recall or still have any USB cords.  This is not the way it has always been.  As i said, when I bought the iPad, I just turned it on and set it to connect to wifi under settings/wifi and synced it when it connected.  I have never used a USB cord for anything and still don't, including the desktop.  So i don't understand why iTunes is not recognizing it when I launch iTunes and as i said, it recognizes the iPhone with the new modem.

Thank you.  I will let you know how it works.  But i am a bit confused on using the USB cord. Where does it connect on the Pad?  The only port i see is for the charger.

You must have a USB cord, otherwise how do you charge the iPad?

What do you connect it to to charge its battery?

That thing is a USB cord, and it should be the white one that came packaged with it.  Probably you keep it plugged to the white charger brick:

    lightning_usb_cable_0_5_m-250x331.jpg

And it connects to the charger port yes. The Lightning port.

One more time, for the iPad to appear in the iTunes application that is running on your computer, and actually sync, you need to have set up Wifi sync. And to do that you need to have connected the iPad to the computer via the USB cable at least once.

This has absolutely nothing to do with how the iPad connects to your Wifi router  / modem and access the internet however.

Are you saying the iPad is not connecting to your Wifi network anymore?  If so then this has nothing to do with iTunes.

I feel there is a communication issue here where you are not getting across what is actually happening, and we are offering suggestions for a completely different issue.

Thank you, it's working.   I was confused with your suggestion mentioning USB "cord".  I never thought of the charger as a USB Cord, just forever called it a charger.  I remained ingrained that a USB 'Cord" was just that, a cord with the two clips at the ends.  Anyway, thanks for the simple solution and your patience.  I appreciate your help.  Peace
