I turned off all second hand apps and this seemed to kill the I'll behavior.
I Then went back then toggled the apps on singularly. Facebook downloaded app was the culprit.
Deleted Facebook app and crazy behavior stopped.

Feb 3, 2016 8:01 PM in response to daddykeithby Jstheater,My phone, a 5S, acts up intermittently now that I've deleted Facebook. It does seem to cut on particularly when I plug in the Apple headphones, but even then not all the time.

Feb 4, 2016 5:26 AM in response to Jstheaterby daddykeith,Before the random launch of apps, my phone would become unresponsive often. Finally, the random app launching was just too much to deal with. After completely wiping my phone (erasing data), I could not re-set up my phone because it would randomly type letters when I was entering my iTunes password. So, I set up a Genius Bar appointment and took it to the store(yesterday). They told me this is a common problem for the phone (mine is an iPhone 6 Plus). Luckily, I had 50 days left on my warranty, so they took it back and replaced the touchscreen. Apparently (and according to my support guy), the pinch/zoom functionality sometimes triggers something in a defective touchscreen causing it go non-responsive. I'm not sure if he included the random app launches and typing with that cause. Nonetheless, I got my phone back with what I assume is a brand new touchscreen. Hopefully, I can now get back to being a normal iPhone user.

Apr 11, 2016 11:50 AM in response to UserHby Esl401k,My iPhone 6 Plus is opening apps, typing, and making calls. My screen freezes consistently so that I cannot use and. I have done a full reset from iTunes and have the latest update. It only seems to have become worse after the reset. Because the apps opening on their own happens about once or twice a week, it seems to be a virus. But the screen freeze may be to a hardware issue. This issue has been going on for about three weeks. Has there been any fix other than replacing the phone?

May 9, 2016 10:58 AM in response to UserHby CrowdControl,I Have just gone though the identical dilemma with my iPhone 6+. It's been a gruelling week but I come out of it with a solution! (That doesn't involve a factory reset or going to apple for a replacement). I too had a protection screen, the dark privacy one by 3M. I removed it, cleaned my screen with a bunch of wipes and micro fibre cloths to no avail. The phone was going crazy. I'd reset it plenty of times but refuse to do a complete wipe.
What at helped in the end was, I got some PVC tape and just stuck it on all parts of the screen, flattening it out nicely then removing. Step by step I did the entire screen and now I'm all good again.
The issue is indeed to do with the protection screen and the touch screen nodes. Pesky dust and air will play with your phone. Do let the Apple employees apply it for you in store because they will be extra extra careful with your expensive toy.
Good luck to any other lost souls out there!

Jul 15, 2016 12:34 AM in response to UserHby johan-doe,I too have experienced this issue, but only when visiting Fairbanks, Alaska (I live in the lower 48) and I use the local cellular network with default data settings. While I do not have an explanation as to exactly why it happens, my successful work around has been to alter my settings and turn off LTE (Settings -> Cellular -> Enable LTE = Off .) After changing this setting to "off" the poltergeist disappears and my iPhone works as expected.

Jul 25, 2016 12:13 PM in response to UserHby menace3,This has been happening to my phone. I had to keep shutting it down to get it to work. And then if I stuck in suit or pants pocket and tried to use it again, it started up.
I finally went to Apple Store and genius admitted that problem happens a lot. The Iphone 6 Plus case is thin and warps and bends. Mine warped and cause the logic board to disengage from the touch screen. They wanted to charge me $349 to replace.
Luckily I got an Iphone 6s Plus as a free upgrade. It's Apple's fault and they know it, but there is no quality assurance program. And this was the only time in history that I did not have AppleCare.

Aug 24, 2016 5:30 PM in response to UserHby bud001,I have the same problem. My iPhone 6 (which i paid full price for) has been acting randomly for a couple months. The symptoms comes and goes but the screen would twitch, open random apps, start typing gibberish, and i have to lock it or force it to restart (and sometimes even that doesnt work). At the same time, my touch screen would become completely unresponsive. Apple wont do anything until i pay $$$ for it. This is a manufacturer's defect that they refuse to fix. I wonder if there is a legal option for the matter.
