Q: Why is it that when I intend to reset my LOGIN password it always redirects me to reset my Apple ID.

It has been almost an hour of me trying to reset my login password. I went to the store and they simply explained that I should just use my Apple ID to reset it but....... when I try it go to iforgotpassword every single time it sends me to reset my APPLE ID, never my log in.

And I can't change the password in system preferences or automatically shut down or restart without my administrative password. I am always logged in even if I manually shut down or restart my computer; at the login window it always bypasses the password entry.

And no my Firewire isn't on.

    Hi leeloh!

I appreciate you reaching out the Apple Support Communities so that we can work together on this issue of it not letting you change the password and redirecting you to change the password for your Apple ID.  Having the password set to what you want is crucial to remembering it since it seems like we have to remember a thousand passwords for different things now days.

One of the reasons that it might be going to the Apple ID password is if the option to reset the password using the Apple ID is turned on in System Preferences > Users & Groups.  The issue that we'd run into is that to be able to unlock it, you'd need the current Admin password so that we can check or uncheck the option there.  No worries though, we do still have some options.

Normally we'd use this article here for being able to change it: Change or reset the password of an OS X user account

If that all looks familiar or steps already done, let us know and we can check out what's next.

    Cheers!
