Apple Watch
Q: dictating text for message
my apple watch is new and when I first got it I could dictate for texts and search maps etc, but for some reason overnight it has stopped working. I have tried to send a message and the microphone symbol is there, but it just flickers on screen and then says send as voicemail without typing any text. if I wait it goes off without doing anything. what has changed?

Hi
The following steps may help:
- To check your chosen option for how messages are sent when dictating a reply via the Messages app on your watch:
- On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > Messages > Audio Messages > choose from:
- Dictation or Audio (to be offered the choice each time you reply);
- Always Dictation (always sends as text);
- Always Audio (always sends as an audio message - your message is not shown on screen in text format as you dictate it).
- On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > Messages > Audio Messages > choose from:
- If you have not yet done so, update your iPhone and Apple Watch to the latest software, starting with your iPhone:
- Restart both your iPhone and your watch:
- Close all open apps on your iPhone:
- Double-click the Home button, then swipe up on each app preview to close it.
- Turn both devices off together, then restart your iPhone first;
- Close all open apps on your iPhone:
- On your iPhone, go to: Settings > General > Keyboard:
- Check that Enable Dictation is turned on.
- On your iPhone, go to Settings > General > Siri:
- Turn Siri off, pause for a few moments and then turn it back on.
