Q: will my iphone 6s still update and restore if it is no longer in recovery mode? is recovery mode suppose to turn off after the update has started downloading?

Hi! I have an Iphone 6s and I'm trying to update and restore it through my laptop!

I put it into recovery mode and I follow the process, but a little bit after the update has started downloading on

my laptop, recovery mode exits my phone and it goes back to my lock screen. Is it suppose to do that?

Is the recovery mode suppose to stay on throughout the whole process?

    Hello there, caitlinhudson!

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you are trying to reinstall the iOS on your iPhone from recovery mode and wondering about the download process. That's a great question! Take a look at this article that talks about using recovery mode: If you can‘t update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Specifically:

When you see the option to Restore or Update, choose Update. iTunes will try to reinstall iOS without erasing your data. Wait while iTunes downloads the software for your device.
If the download takes more than 15 minutes and your device exits recovery mode, you'll need to repeat these steps and choose Restore instead of Update when you get back to this step.

So this is normal. Just wait for iTunes to complete the download of the software and then if you need to, do the steps again.

    Cheers!
