Q: My Apple Watch is asking for the password every time I raise my hand.  It normally only does this after I have taken the watch off and put it back on.

The following steps may help:

• Check that Wrist Detection is still turned on:
  • On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > General > Wrist Detection - turn on.

• Check that you are wearing your watch sufficiently snugly on the top of your wrist (if it is worn too loosely, your watch may believe that it has been removed from your wrist).

this did not help.  I have also tried hard resets to both phone and watch as well a re-pairing the watch and phone 2x.  None of these things have helped.  any other ideas?

If passcode restrictions are enforced on your iPhone, they also affect your watch. If this applies, contact your device administrator for further information and help. Restrictions may be applied on your iPhone via a corporate configuration profile, mobile device management or Exchange policy (as used, for example, by some schools and businesses).

Check also that the back of the watch is clean and dry:

Sensor performance can also be affected by temporary or permanent changes to your skin, such as by some wrist tattoos.

If you have not yet done so, it may help to update your iPhone and Apple Watch to the latest software, starting with your iPhone:

Otherwise, given the steps that you have already tried, I suggest that you contact Apple Support (mail-in service may be available) or make a Genius Bar reservation with a view to having your watch checked and, if recommended by Apple, serviced (whether under warranty, if eligible, or via chargeable repair service):

You've more than likely attached it a notch looser than normal. For example. I have a sports band that I normally attach at the 3rd hole. If I attach it at the 4th hole inadvertently, I'll have to enter the password.
