Q: MAJOR Complications With IOS 9.3.4

Hi all,

After remaining on a version of IOS 8 for quite a while, I finally made the jump to IOS 9.3.4.  This may have proven to be a huge mistake, as now it seems everything on my phone that I use has stopped working, save for texts and maybe calls.  For reference, I have an 128 GB iPhone 6.  My phone has been updated for MAYBE an hour, and I've already run into the following complications...

1. Everything takes a long time to load.  Load times have been ranging from 15-45 seconds, though sometimes things won't load at all.

2. Music is essentially frozen.  When I open the app from a restarted state (my phone, not the app), everything will work fine.  As soon as I play a song however, the whole app will freeze, though the song will still play.  No matter what I click it doesn't work, and even exiting the app will take a solid 15 seconds to load.  Entering the app after exiting it will result in me viewing my music list, but still completely frozen.  I have to restart my phone again to get it to work at all, but that just repeats the above process.

3. The podcast app will not load at all.  When the phone goes on sleep mode from waiting too long, opening it back up will result in me seeing a frozen view of my wallpaper.

4. New tabs in Safari do not work at all.  This means I essentially can't use Safari anymore because, since when I open the app it takes mer to a fresh tab.

5. The alarm function in my clocks app does not work.  All my alarms have vanished, and when I try to save a new one, it will not appear in my alarm list.  As well, after trying to add a new world clock as a test, it froze all the other functions of the app.

6. Battery percentage does the same thing as my alarm list.  Turning it on will not result in the percentage appearing, and as soon as I go back to the battery page, it shows as turned off again.

I understand that glitches come with new updates, but my phone is basically unusable now.  I've spent like a thousand dollars on this thing, and a simple "security update" has made it a shiny piece of metal.

Does anyone know how I can get my phone back?  Anyone else been having these problems?  Anyone have similar problems with Android, because they're starting to look like a nice option.

You got a corrupted update somehow as nearly everyone on the ASC is having no issues. I have 4 iOS devices now on 9.3.5 with no issues. There is a new update, 9.3.5, but that is not your problem. You need to Restore your phone using iTunes so you can get a fresh copy of the iOS. I suggest you restore it as new first, not from backup. If all ok, try restoring the backup.

Hmm, ok.  Sorry, my tech knowledge is really limited.  Can you expand a little on what you mean by saying "restore it as new first, not from back-up"?  Does this mean I should reset my phone entirely, and not use the back-up on my computer until everything else works?

    Thanks for your help.

I made the IOS 9.3.4 update and it ruined my phone. Lots of people are having issues with this update. Go to ifixit.com to see how many complaints there are. The touchscreen doesn't respond, the screen freezes, it flickers on and off. My phone is essentially unusable. Apple does nothing for you so this is my last Apple product. This is our fourth major issue with an Apple product in a year and we are talking about devices that are always in cases, always in screen protectors, never in water, never damaged. My husband already switched to Samsung and is much happier. I am going to eat the cost of this phone and buy a non-Apple phone. When Apple wouldn't help with my MacBook I got a Lenovo for half the price and it's great. When the last of our Apple products die (which will be any moment since they are no longer well made), iPads, mini iPads, my daughter's laptop and phone they will be replaced with something non Apple. Last week I bought my son a laptop for school. In the past I would have gone Mac without a second though but I'm so frustrated with them we got him a Dell. Sure it will only last a few years but at least it isn't costing a ton of money to replace. If Apple is going to be any other junk manufacturer, then why pay their ridiculous prices? Maybe if enough people ditch them they will start making quality products again. So Apple, I doubt you'll read this but just know that you've lost the sales of four laptops, four phones and four tablets for the foreseeable future.

    Thanks for your help.

Sorry I did not get back with you earlier. I just saw you reply. My bad.

You should first backup your iPhone to your computer following the steps below. Use the iTunes method.

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Then do a system restore as I mentioned above. The steps are here again.

System Restore. First backup your device using iTunes. Also import your photos to your computer and copy all important data if possible.

    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201252

When you do the restore, iTunes will ask you if you want to set up your phone as new (which will reset all to factory) or from backup. If you first select as new, you can test the phone and if it works ok you have eliminated the possibility of a hardware issue, the phone works ok. You can then go back to iTunes and restore the phone from backup. If it still works ok you are in great shape, all ok. If it does not work ok after restoring from backup, the backup is corrupted and you would have to restore again as new and configure from scratch. This happened to me once and it is a pain, I know, but hopefully your backup will be ok. If this is still not clear please post back... I'll will help you the best I can....

Thanks for the help!  All the issues with my phone seem to be totally gone, and my phone is working better then it was before.  Thanks again!
