Q: iTunes could not connect to . . . invalid response was received

I have an iPhone 6, iPhone6 Plus, iPad Air, and iPad Air 2 in my household. Every time I update them I get, at the end, a message: "iTunes could not connect to the (device name) because an invalid response was received from the device." I AM able to update the device. It disappears from the iTunes window, but I just let it restart, and it shows that it is updated. I unplug it, and the next time I plug it in, it shows in iTunes. Just kind of irritating. Anybody know what might be going on? Thanks in advance.

Ok, try the steps by lllaass in this thread to see if they help.

itunes could not connect to ipod touch because invalid response received from the device

I am also going to contact an expert on iTunes issues here on the ASC. He is in the UK and may not respond right away.

Do you have a PC? If so I suspect a corrupted driver. Try uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes and make sure you follow the steps here exactly, they are all essential. The latest iTunes version is 12.4.3

What version of ITunes are you running? if the Mac does not allow you to update to 12.4.3 you would need to update the OS on the Mac to 10.8.6 or later.

Are you running any additional security software on the Mac? That might have an impact when the device restarts. The other approach would be to backup the devices locally (or to iCloud if preferred) then update over the air for faster updates without the mysterious hiccups.

Thanks for your reply, turingtest2. No, no additional security stuff. And I do back up locally. And yes, when I update over the air, I get no hiccups. Thanks.

Sorry I can't think of a definitive remedy, but at least you can complete the updates and get the devices to talk to iTunes afterwards.
