Q: AirPlay keeps switching back to iPhone

i dont have wifi, but it has worked before. I connected my phone to the business center at my apartment complex and that's where it seemed to go haywire. Now it won't connect. wifi  on but not connected, so is Bluetooth. Still no connection. AirPlay on my phone automatically switches back to iPhone from AppleTV. What am I doing wrong?!

iPhone 6s, iOS 9.3.4

Perhaps you set up the iPhone as a personal hotspot so it and the Apple TV can send data back and forth without needing to connect to a wi-fi access point/router?

Hi. So I think you're trying to use peer-to-peer AirPlay, which uses Bluetooth for discovery, then creates a direct WiFi link between the two devices, bypassing any network. I guess you can see your ATV in the AirPlay menu on your phone. When does it automatically switch back? Immediately after connecting, or after some time? Does it happen when you try to play a certain program?

On ATV, check that you have not enabled any of the AirPlay security options or device verification, under Settings > AirPlay. Also check that Play Purchases from iCloud is Off.

Hey Diana, I select atv as my source on AirPlay and it selects it with w check mark, however, it seems not to connect at all. Once I click my home screen and open AirPlay again it's got iPhone selected again. My phones screen never actually shows on the tv screen. Any ideas?

Can you see ATV in the AirPlay menu when Bluetooth is off on the phone? If so, it may be trying to connect over WiFi, even if Bluetooth is on, because I don't think you can force peer-to-peer AirPlay. But your facility may be blocking connection between devices on the WiFi. This is common in shared WiFi, such as in hotels, to prevent hackers from interfering with users. If you can disconnect ATV or phone from WiFi, peer-to-peer might work.
