Q: Can't set a range to export - because "O/Out" unselects the range

Hi

Haven't used FCPX in a while, tearing my hair out trying to simply select a range for export.

Once I figure out/remember that I have to choose a particular clip to do it, doesn't matter which one, I just have to select any - I select a clip, hit "I" and I have a range.

Now, I set the playhead to 9.00 using the move playhead digits (name?)- and hit O and the range... DISAPPEARS!

Something about not having the right thing selected?

I cannot figure out a way to select a range using only the precision setting of the timeline.

Is it forcing me to use the mouse?

I have no need for the mouse, and I really don't want to use it. I have the exact time range I want.

What it is requiring me to do here? Set, select, unselect, I/O... no combination works for me and this should be so simple.

All I want to do, is export from 7:12 to 9:00 - by typing in those 2 numbers and setting I/O.

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5), Intel Core i3, 3.2 GHz, 12GB RAM

First try trashing your preferences. Hold Opt-Cmd as you launch the application. Are you marking the In point first? Can you post a screenshot of the browser in list view with the in point marked. You are in browser, yes?

    I've got it.

I wasn't selecting the "Master clip" it was out of sight. But being selected exactly as I was wanting.

I was selecting and expecting the range to be set on another clip, higher up.

It was sometimes being set and sometimes disappearing.

    In context, very confusing.

    But now solved.

And by "Master Clip", I mean the Primary Story Line.

I had so many clips, I just thought I could select any... but you "must" select the primary story line for a range.
