Several things. First, you are sharing an Apple ID between different people. That isn't a recommended practice. The best practice is to maintain separate iCloud accounts and link them using Family Sharing. However, if you insist on using this discouraged practice you need to go into Settings/Messages and select different IDs for the 2 phones. Note you will also have problems with the Phone app; both phones will ring when one is called, unless you turn off phone forwarding in Settings. And the Recents list on both phones will list the calls from both phones.

Each one of you should have their own Apple ID account.

If you want to share apps or music purchases, the main account should set up Family Sharing.
